There are also unparalleled stargazing opportunities and incredible wild swimming spots. We recommend bringing hiking boots and appropriate outerwear to really get the most out of your adventure here in Galloway!

Activities

Walking

The Holm is surrounded by an abundance of beautiful walks, including Ness Glen , Dundeugh Forest, Water Of Minnoch, Glen Trool, and Polmaddie. Situated 9 miles from St John’sTown of Dalry, it is in the heart of the Southern Upland Way. Maps and guides are available to all our guests, plus a hot-water dog wash for muddy paws.

Hiking

For those looking for challenging mountain days the Galloway Hills are easily accessible from the farmhouse, including Corbetts, Cairnsmore (797m) and Corserine (814m). The Merrick is the highest summit in Southern Scotland and lies in the heart of the Galloway Ranges.

Dark Skies Park

The Holm is right in the heart of the Galloway Dark Skies Park and on a clear night the constellation is spectacular. There are over 7,000 stars and planets visible to the naked eye, rare stargazing conditions, and the chance to see the Northern Lights.

Outdoor Experiences

Galloway has many other outdoor pursuits to enjoy. Explore award-winning trails at 7stanes, ideal for thrill-seeking mountain bikers. In addition, Galloway Activity Centre run a regular programme of outdoor activity sessions, from archery to kayaking.

Wild Swimming

Just a few minute’s walk from The Holm you’ll find various wild swimming spots in our river; with shallow edges and rocky shores, be sure to bring your swimming costume.

Castles

You’ll find various castles and historic sites to explore and we recommend a visit to Culzean Castle, Dumfries House, Sanquhar Castle, Loch Doon Castle, and Drumlanrig Castle & Gardens.
